Apple Announces Over $1 Million In Education Grants

   Yesterday at the National Education Computing Conference Apple Computer, Inc. (Nasdaq: AAPL) awarded over $1 million in grants to 10 K-12/ higher education institution teams in recognition of excellence in their education technology project plans. This is the 20th consecutive year the Apple Education Grants have been awarded to support leading edge learning projects.

   "Receiving Apple Education Grant enables educators to realize their technology vision in their classrooms," said Mike Lorion, vice president of Education Sales. "Our awards of over $30 million in the last 20 years have allowed leading educators to improve their students' classroom experience by creating projects that are truly creative and collaborative."

   The Apple Education Grants program seeks to support schools that demonstrate innovative ways to use technology in their classrooms and who would otherwise have limited access to technology. This year's grants also require collaboration between K-12 schools and higher education institutions that deliver ongoing teacher professional development.

   The 10 K-12/higher education institution teams who will receive the grants are:

• Roosevelt Elementary School, Burlingame, California and College of Notre Dame, Belmont, California

•  John Muir Elementary School, Santa Monica, California and Center X, Graduate School of Education Studies, UCLA, Los Angeles, California

• Huckleberry Hill Elementary School, Brookfield, Connecticut and Western Connecticut State University, Danbury, Connecticut

•  Oglethorpe County Middle School, Lexington, Georgia and University of Georgia, College of Education, Athens, Georgia

• Urbana Middle School, Urbana, Illinois and University of Illinois, Champaign, Illinois

• John Dibert Elementary School and University of New Orleans, New Orleans, Louisiana

• Evans-Brant Central School District, Angola, New York and University at Buffalo, State University of New York, Buffalo, New York

• Northern High School and Duke University, Durham, North Carolina

• Sapulpa Junior High, Sapulpa, Oklahoma and Oral Roberts University,Tulsa, Oklahoma

• John Peter Tetard Middle School 143X and City College of New York
